Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Consulting Ltd

We are a one-stop consultancy with over 70 years’ experience in visitor design and management for wildlife and people, delivering innovative projects globally.

Our products and services:

  • Visitor centre planning;
  • Habitat design and management;
  • Ecological surveys and assessments, and
  • Wetland treatment systems and sustainable drainage systems

We deliver natural history, heritage and wetland centre projects internationally. Our approach addresses the needs of both wildlife and people. From brand-new visitor centres and compact exhibits to interpretation for outdoor experiences such as trails and hides, we can help.

We develop appealing interpretation that is audience-appropriate, enjoyable and responsive to its environment. Working within the constraints of the site and budget, we create exciting educational experiences for inside and outside.

For our interpretation projects we employ a holistic approach, forming a project team of highly experienced staff with specialisms to support master-planning, design and build and design/tender projects. Services include access and audience assessments, interpretation and spatial planning, 3D and 2D design, content development and scriptwriting, production of bespoke illustrations and artistic impressions, sustainable management and business planning.

Our process considers four core areas: interpretation, landscape, architecture and business. This allows us to provide our clients with a fully-bespoke service from feasibility, through concept to completion.

To us developing good interpretation is as much about interpreting the needs of our audiences as it is about uncovering and shaping the stories we communicate. When undertaking interpretation planning, we believe stakeholders should be considered throughout the project, to develop a visitor experience to cater for the audience and create a sense of ownership of the project within the local community.

We also offer an audit and review service, with staff experienced in visitor centre management, visitor studies, and exhibit and learning programme evaluation. We can design upgrades to integrate new ideas sensitively with existing interpretation.
