Interpretive host trainer course for IE CIGTs

This one-day course is designed for IE members who have successfully completed the seven-day guide trainers course as IE Certified Interpretive Guide Trainers (CIGTs) and wish to become IE Certified Interpretive Host Trainers (CIHTs).

In this course, CIGTs will study and practice delivering the curriculum and rationale of the two-day Interpretive Host course. Participants discuss and deliver exercises on subjects such as:

  • the characteristics and needs of people working in the tourism sector who wish to become CIHs
  • the use of practical materials and exercises to promote/teach heritage interpretation
  • examples of good practice from around Europe and how to help participants benefit from them
  • promoting a product in combination with heritage interpretation

Participants will study step-by-step how to run the IE Interpretive Host course, covering practical issues, such as planning and promoting the course, stakeholder analysis, securing quality criteria, etc.

To be certified, participants will deliver a homework task.

All applicants must be either individual members or professional members of Interpret Europe. After successfully completing this course, Certified Host Trainers are registered by Interpret Europe and authorised to run the IE interpretive host course on their own. They are fully responsible for their interpretive host courses including certification and do not need to pay any fees to Interpret Europe.

Interpretation is a voyage
of discovery in the field
of human emotions
and intellectual growth,
and it is hard to foresee
that time when
the interpreter can
confidently say,
"Now we are wholly
adequate to our task".
