Europe is a continent of breathtaking diversity: from soaring mountains to rolling seas, from permanent ice to parched landscapes, from local beauty spots to great wild areas.
A long and eventful history has shaped Europe's peoples, their built heritage, their arts and their intangible culture over thousands of years. The people of Europe speak many different languages and their national and regional characteristics are vibrant and fascinating.
This diversity is a great challenge to interpreters but, more importantly, it
presents a host of opportunities. Freiburg in Germany, close to France and Switzerland, is an ideal location.
Let's be diverse
Diversity of culture and language is a core resource of professional interpretation. The methodology of interpretation is always aimed at visitors to sites, whether tourists or local people. It aims to address different target groups in a systematic and creative way. The ethics of heritage interpretation inherently include working towards greater mutual understanding, tolerance and harmony.
This conference will explore best practice and methodology in interpretation for diverse target groups. We look forward to you joining us and contributing to our discussions.
All presentations and workshops will be held in English.
